Artistic Director and Choreographer Takeshi Yazaki began his career as an actor in 1981. However, excited by the possibilities of contemporary dance, Takeshi changed his direction and immersed himself completely into dance. In 1989, he moved to New York City to study at the Alvin Ailey School.

From 1992 – 1998, Takeshi was part of the project MATOMA France-Japan and performed in many festivals throughout France as a soloist. He established Arrow Dance Communication, his own company in 1997, and has since worked on pieces that are physical, cynical and comical, with the theme ‘Universal Truth of Man's Life’ .

As a performer, Takeshi was nominated at the International Choreography Competition at Begnolet in 1998.

 

Since 1999, with the popularity of the ‘Space Series’ in France, Takeshi and his company have been invited to many international dance festivals and had performed at Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Osaka), USA (Philadelphia), France (Paris, Lyon, Marseilles, Nancy & Rouen) and South Korea (Daejeon).

Arrow Dance Communication premiered ‘Blue Time’ in November 2003, in cooperation with Centre National de la Danse (CND) and Maison de la culture du Japon a Paris and CATALYS where the dance work was performed at CND Nancy, Marseilles and Paris. ‘Blue Time’ was also invited to perform at the International Mime Festival 2004 at Perigueux, France.

Over the years, Takeshi has collaborated with many international artists such as Michel Kelemenis (France), Vincent Skwati Mantsoe (South Africa), Headlong Dance Theater (USA) and Angela & Raphaelo (graphic artist – Brazil).
