SYNOPSIS

‘Innocent Light’ is an Asian contemporary dance that depicts the strong influence of western culture on us while we retain our indigenous cultural belief.

The work attempts to portray the East meets West methodology, while combining the movement vocabulary and quality, music, sets and stage design to synthesize closely with contemporary aesthetics and symbolic rituals.

This cross-cultural sentiment expresses the urge of one self in wishing for the ‘light’ to illuminate his soul. The need for a ‘light’ that dispels the darkness of ignorance inspires and directs his innocent heart in the pursuit of a sanctuary with peace and happiness, in this period of global uncertainties.

“The beginning of Tan's works never fail to evoke interest and this was no exception”
“The work is filled with potential and ideas based upon the premise of an East/West experiment”
“ The work managed to look relatively organic and was not a pastiche of Oriental-looking steps interspersed by 'modern' movements.”
