INTRODUCTION
A
world class, award-winning institution providing professional
education, performing and research facilities in dance, the School
of Dance provides comprehensive training to students who aspire
to become professional dancers and teachers in Classical Ballet,
Chinese Dance, Modern Dance or Musical Theatre Dance.
During
the course of studies at HKAPA, students are encouraged to develop
their creativity as well as technical skills in dance. Professional
skills are further developed by performance in studio and theatre
spaces and by interdisciplinary work with fellow student in Drama,
Music, Technical Arts and Film/ Television.
Potential
and enthusiasm to dance as well as previous training are looked
for in candidates.
AREAS
OF STUDY
With
majors in Classical Ballet, Chinese Dance, Modern Dance &
Musical Theatre Dance, the study programmes made available at
HKAPA's School of Dance include the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons),
Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Professional Diploma, Certificate,
Advanced Certificate and Professional Certificate programmes.
PRODUCTION
& TOURS
School
of Dance productions have won international and local acclaim
- HKAPA's production of Willy Tsao's (Artistic Director of City
Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong) Birdsong
received the Hong Kong Dance Alliance's Dance Award 2000.
Students perform in two full scale Lyric Theatre productions annually,
present their work in Choreographic Workshops in their "black
box" theatre and in the repertory, opera, musical theatre,
and outreach productions.
The
School regularly tours locally and overseas visiting England,
Scotland, France, USA, Canada, Australia, India, the Philippines,
China, Taiwan, Korea and South Africa among others. A recent tour
was awarded the Gran Prix Prahaä for the best school participant
at the prestigious Prague Dance Festival 2000.
