Odyssey
Dance Theatre was founded in June 1999 by Mr. Danny Tan (Artistic
Director/ Choreographer), to provide a new creative voice in dance.
A
professional contemporary dance theatre, it aims to create opportunities
for young professionally trained dance practitioners to return
to Singapore, and to contribute to the cultural life of the country
by promoting the art form of dance.
January
2000 saw Odyssey Dance Theatre in its debut performance - 'ODYSSEY
TO THE SUBLIME', at the Jubilee Hall (Raffles Hotel) and
Tainan City and County, Taiwan ROC.
This
debut has led ODT to present other successful repertoires such
as 'X-TREME' (April 2000) at The Substation, 'THE
ORIGINS' (September 2000) at Kallang Theatre, 'ONE'
(January 2001) at the Victoria Theatre and 'XTREME2'
(May 2001) at Guinness Theatre.
The
good reviews from the critics and media have helped promote the
works by Danny Tan. As such, ODT has been invited to perform at
Hong Kong (February 2001) and Australia (March 2001).
With
its objective to provide a platform for the creation of works
by dance practitioners, ODT has also launched the 'NEW TALENT
PRESENTATION' series in November 2000 at Drama Centre.
Mr.
Danny Tan is currently choreographing for ODT his 5th full-length
repertoire - THE 'WHITE' SENSATION (21-22 September
at Victoria Theatre). Specially commissioned by Seagate Technology
Int'l, this endeavour will enable Danny in his constant exploration
and experimentation of contemporary dance making. This also reinforces
ODT's strong commitment towards Innovation, Creativity and
Precision.
