THE 1ST OF ITS KIND IN SINGAPORE
November 26 - December 4 2001
Victoria Theatre & Northland Arts Centre
Proudly Organised by Odyssey Dance Theatre, Singapore
Artistic Director : Mr. Danny Tan, MFA

This November 2001, Odyssey Dance Theatre (ODT) will proudly present a major dance event in Singapore - XPOSITION 'O' CONTEMPORARY DANCE FIESTA.

The 1st of its kind in Singapore, this year's event will witness distinctive and professional works by ODT and international dance bodies - Expressions Dance Company (Australia) and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA).

With strong international presence in a major local dance event, the public can expect to see lots of synergy, participation, cultural exchanges and dance appreciation for the local and international contemporary dance in this biennial event.

THE CATALYST FOR DANCE PROVOCATION

XPOSITION 'O' places strong emphasis on (1) professional dance-making, (2) distinctive choreography, (3) dance theatre and (4) its impact on the local and regional dance scenes.

ODT's 'Odyssey to the Sublime' returns to Singapore again, after its successful run in Australia, Singapore and Taiwan ROC. A stimulating full-length work, it shows how Contemporary Dance is capable of blending Asian traditional elements, in the creation of another cultural perspective and leading it to a new aesthetic on an international platform.

'True to its cross-cultural mantra, the company melded fashionably East-West dance techniques as well as music sounds from the usual intercultural-music brigade...'
The Straits Times, January 2000

'… the production aspects of Odyssey were impressive'
The Arts Magazine, March/April 2000 Issue

ODT is joined by Expressions' 'Vanities Crossing' - a compelling creation by Artistic Director and leading Australian choreographer Maggi Sietsma in a seamless dance theatre piece offering an energetic mix of mediums and styles - presentation of a series of contemporary vignettes on narcissism that are witty, eclectic, energetic, humourous and liberating.

"This demanding tour de force showcases the technical brilliance and interpretive intensity of the Expressions' company dancers."
The Sunday Mail

"Athletic, challenging, refreshing and unexpected ... remarkable."
The Stage - London

HKAPA, a world class award-winning institution, will present premieres for their new repertoires by its resident and guest choreographers from Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Australia. After their performances in Singapore, the Dance Faculty will perform again at HKAPA's Lyric Theatre in December 2001.

"If you care about the state of dance in Hong Kong, there was plenty of hope at the Academy of Performing Arts annual display of its young talents …
The full-tilt motion was pure energy, a bold statement about the ability of Hong Kong's young dancers to maintain audience attention right to the end of the evening."
South China Morning Post (Hong Kong)

OPENING PERFORMANCE BY ODYSSEY DANCE THEATRE

A full-length work documenting the battle between man's inner & external selves, and his final transcendence into Wisdom

The stage is clear for XPOSITION 'O' CONTEMPORARY DANCE FIESTA. On 27 November, the fiesta's professional performances segment will be opened at Victoria Theatre with Danny Tan's Odyssey to the Sublime.

"A journey. A search. A cross-cultural exploration for identity between the traditional and the contemporary, the east and west. The creation of another cultural perspective and the presentation of a new aesthetic."
Mr. Danny Tan, Artistic Director/Choreographer for ODT

The work's successful debut during January 2000 in Singapore and Taiwan ROC had later led ODT to attain various artistic milestones in its series of acclaimed Mainhouse Productions (THE ORIGINS, WAVY EMOTIONS, WINGS, THE ROOTS, XTREME2).
