recognition
& endorsement
Over the last 4 years, the sustained commitment and support from
numerous organisations have assisted ODT to grow from strength
to strength. These include the National Arts Council, ARTS
FUND, Lee Foundation, The Arts Magazine, OCBC Bank, Singapore
Pools, Hotel Bencoolen, Northland Secondary School, PASSION 99.5FM
and most recently SHELL. In May 2001, through a
major year-long sponsorship programme by Seagate Technology
Int'l, major recognition has been given towards Mr. Danny
Tan, for the conceptualisation and choreography of his full-length
repertoire - THE 'WHITE' SENSATION (21-22 September
at Victoria Theatre).
Specially commissioned by Seagate,
this endeavour has enabled Mr. Danny Tan in his constant exploration
and experimentation of contemporary dance making, as well as reinforcing
the shared principles between Seagate & ODT - Innovation,
Creativity & Precision. This repertoire was also re-staged
for the Esplanade Trial & Orientation in JUly
2002.
initiatives
To provide a platform for the creation of original dance works,
ODT has launched the 'NEW TALENT PRESENTATION' in November
2000 - a three-part series that promotes value-added exchanges
and interaction between local and foreign choreographers.
The second of this three-part series was presented as titled production
BOLD MOVES in May 2002 while the series concluded will
conclude with "MAN.POWER." in May 2003, featuring
new works by 4 male choreographers from the Asia-Pacific region.
The successful conclusion of this series will lead to the introduction
of another 3-part series - WILD MOVES, a platform to promote
unconventional dance forms.
Recognising the need to introduce
ability-driven arts/dance education at a younger age, ODT
and Northland Secondary School have spearheaded a 4-year comprehensive
arts & dance curriculum since June 2000. Awarded by the
National Arts Council as its 1st Dance Artiste-In-School,
this proven programme has also seen the active participation from
other schools within the cluster since 2001.
Separating itself from the usual
conventional dance instruction, the YOUNG ARTISTS PROJECT (Y.A.P.)
was launched in April 2001, to offer a definite distinction
in professionalism, creativity and dance development.
To provide an aesthetic & artistic
environment in which local dance artists and students can strive
and develop their technical and choreographic abilities, the Y.A.P.
PERFORMERS was set up in January 2002, to offer our young
members the performing opportunities at ODT. This include 'O'
DANCE - a 10-part series over 5 years where they will be involved
in various community/outreach performances and programmes.
